But girls are the boss.<br />

Kirk is in season... I had to withdraw from 3 trials thanks to that. Two were AKC trials and I had only entered Kirk and only 1 day and got most of my money back, for which I'm thankful. The last one really hurt though, even though I got my money back for that entirely since I withdrew before close. It is SMART USDAA, which is the trial before regionals. This is Kirk's first trial where she's old enough for USDAA and I was counting on the GP/SC opportunities so we might be able to play at regionals. Additionally, I was hoping it would allow her to become acclimated to jumping 22" (assuming she doesn't measure into 18", which I'm still hoping for but not expecting). She MAY be out of season by SMART but I didn't feel right waiting until last minute to tell them. Maybe if she's out I can rescind my withdrawl. One can dream :) <br />
<br />
So anyway, I'm still looking forward to Bay Team Regionals. Even if chances are unlikely Kirk will be able to play in the main events she does have a fun team! And Rammy already has his Q for psj and bye for pGP so he gets to play. Icon hasn't been to any USDAA trials this season so we will try in the local's on Friday, but I'm not expecting much because in the limited training we do he tends to run around more jumps than he takes. He sure seems happy doing it though!Channanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06510370599965624309noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3383509909269897844.post-86528425331738134122015-08-04T10:08:00.000-07:002015-08-04T10:08:34.961-07:00It's a good thing her agility future looks bright.. :)<iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="281" mozallowfullscreen="" src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/135208232" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="500"></iframe> Kirk Herding - Aug 2 from <a href="https://vimeo.com/agilitydogs">Agility Dogs</a> on <a href="https://vimeo.com/">Vimeo</a>.<br />

<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1772_zps0gfycjcx.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1772_zps0gfycjcx.jpg" /><br />
<br />
I normally don't sleep well my first night out backpacking because I hear bears and mountain lions and other scary things whenever the wind blow or a dog shifts but I slept SO well that night.<br />
<br />
I made Kirk wear a booty on her cut paw. She didn't like it at all.<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1778_zps4c8sfap6.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1778_zps4c8sfap6.jpg" /><br />
<br />
Although she was fine with it when we started hiking. I started out with her on leash, but that didn't last very long. And the booty didn't last much longer. There were so many water crossings that it became a pain to pick her up and carry her over so I just took off her boot and let her go. <br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1782_zps4vtdz0sm.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1782_zps4vtdz0sm.jpg" /><br />
<br />
Can you spot Rampage?<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1784_zpsqnqmkhjc.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1784_zpsqnqmkhjc.jpg" /><br />
<br />
We had a more leisurely hike out than we did on the way in and stopped to let the dogs play in the water. This was Bear Creek (I think).<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1795_zpsanrlssan.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1795_zpsanrlssan.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1804_zpsh3opruba.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1804_zpsh3opruba.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1823_zpsrtkz5xzo.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1823_zpsrtkz5xzo.jpg" /><br />
<br />
We also found a nice path down to a swimming hole at Swift Creek.<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1840_zpsonyy2rjr.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1840_zpsonyy2rjr.jpg" /><br />
<br />
It wasn't TOO swift, but I did almost lose Rammy down the rapids to the left at first, the water was moving fast there!<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1848_zps26oxsgcs.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1848_zps26oxsgcs.jpg" /><br />
<br />
So then I sat there to block the way. <br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1867_zpsfayxwzah.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1867_zpsfayxwzah.jpg" /> <br />
<br />
Rampage loved the water here but Kirk and Brew weren't so sure, maybe due to the current.<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1852_zpsgigwwewo.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1852_zpsgigwwewo.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1881_zpsx53kgfck.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1881_zpsx53kgfck.jpg" /><br />
<br />
And some gopro fun!<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1932_zpskjxdktxf.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1932_zpskjxdktxf.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1933_zpsouf4qz4d.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1933_zpsouf4qz4d.jpg" /><br />
<br />
And then we were done!<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1929_zps9kox5f4r.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1929_zps9kox5f4r.jpg" /><br />
<br />
I can't wait to go back.<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1945_zpsvp41jum3.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/07%20-%20Trinity%20Alps/GOPR1945_zpsvp41jum3.jpg" /> <br />
<br />
<br />

It was a nice, previously established site with a fire pit. As soon as his backpack was off Rampage started his signature dirt rolling.<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1665_zpsa2ztier9.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1665_zpsa2ztier9.jpg" /> <br />
<br />
And Brew decided to relax.<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1666_zpst6lefq3o.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1666_zpst6lefq3o.jpg" /><br />
<br />
The view as I was filling and treating my water.<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1686_zpswzh6rq9o.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1686_zpswzh6rq9o.jpg" /><br />
<br />
We had a lot of thunder and a tiny bit of rain. Rammy no like thunder. He would have been happy in the tent, but last time we were backpacking with thunder I had him in the tent and he destroyed my $600 down sleeping quilt by digging. But that is another story...<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1699_zpsw8lgdkij.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1699_zpsw8lgdkij.jpg" /><br />
<br />
Brew and Kirk were not big fans of the thunder but didn't care as much. Brew is NOT a cuddly dog so this is a very cute photo :)<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1707_zpsutd3wbc8.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1707_zpsutd3wbc8.jpg" /><br />
<br />
Rammy's hiding spot<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1716_zpsdrsgyuqk.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1716_zpsdrsgyuqk.jpg" /><br />
<br />
Kirk enjoyed having her own personal warming station.<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1729_zpsojzq5tqz.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1729_zpsojzq5tqz.jpg" /><br />
<br />
The view from my tent was... pleasant :) The thunder was pretty much over by this point by Rammy was still concerned.<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1749_zpsmtcohpzq.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1749_zpsmtcohpzq.jpg" /><br />
<br />
And it seems our campsite was often used by mule packers because after we set up and it was starting to get dark an old man with a pistol on his belt and a mule train on the trail came into our camp. He first asked us (not nicely) how long we were staying and then proceeded to berate us for having a fire in the fire pit, which we had a permit for. I tried to argue with him (while trying to keep Rampage and Kirk from barking at him and his mule) and insisted I had a permit while he insisted I didn't but before I could get it out Laura diplomatically told him "thank you for the information and good bye". We didn't see him again but just before dusk a helicopter flew over our site 2 times so we started worrying he was right and we weren't supposed to have a fire. I did call the ranger station after we got back to civilization and it was allowed. The helicopter was just looking for fires started by the thunderstorm and the mule packer was just being an asshole because we took what he thought was HIS campsite.<br />
<br />
To be continued...Channanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06510370599965624309noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3383509909269897844.post-87007740015132943752015-07-31T08:43:00.002-07:002015-07-31T08:43:36.134-07:00Trinity Alps Part 1I recently went on a backpacking trip with a friend to the Trinity Alps Wilderness. I only brought Rampage and Kirk because backpacking with 3 dogs is... challenging. We were supposed to be gone 3 days/2 nights but ended up being only 1 night because Kirk cut her pad the first day :(. Many creek crossings meant it was beautiful there, but there was a lot of running through hard rocks after the creeks and it must have really softened her pads. <br />
<br />
But Kirk was excited and raring to go at the start!<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1396_zpsarsnkfqz.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1396_zpsarsnkfqz.jpg" /><br />
<br />
Entering the Trinities<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1401_zpsj14bxjpq.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1401_zpsj14bxjpq.jpg" /> <br />
<br />
Taking a break at one of the many creeks. We really didn't need to carry much water at all, which is a nice change from the Sierra's.<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1407_zpsi6j3fnvq.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1407_zpsi6j3fnvq.jpg" /><br />
<br />
There also wasn't as much climbing as I'm used to in the Sierra's, which was really nice! Although if we had continued our route on the 2nd day, I probably would have changed my mind :)<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1412_zps8okzc6qc.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1412_zps8okzc6qc.jpg" /><br />

<br />There used to be a bridge over this creek, but was washed out a long time ago. It was easy for us to cross, but probably a bit more difficult in late spring/early summer.<br />
<img alt=" photo GOPR1485_zpsyesamhxj.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2015/GOPR1485_zpsyesamhxj.jpg" /><br />

Heading to Bear Basin, but Kirk wanted to check out the skull.<br />

<br />
I'm very bad at stopping to take breaks, I tend to just put my head down and keep walking. That's why it's good to have friends that make you stop :)<br />

This place didn't have a name on the map, so we dubbed it "Kirk Meadow". It was quite lovely but, errrr, moist. Earlier in the season I think you'd be slogging through marsh.<br />

<br />
So here I am!<br />
<br />
And here is Kirk!<br />
<br />
I entered her at 20" in AKC for the first time last weekend because she has a USDAA trial in a few weeks and while I'm hoping she'll measure into 18" she may have to jump 22". I don't want her to be shocked by the jump from 16-22...<br />
<br />
As I kinda expected she had a bar every run (and two in one run). I'm hoping we get this sorted out. She happily drops bars at 16" too, though. We would be in masters for now if it wasn't for that bar thing ;). But otherwise, she is pretty awesome! <br />

<br />
And a Standard run. <br />

<br />
A little sequence from practicing at 22" in 100 degree weather (probably should have stayed home that day). She's so much fun, even when hot!<br />

There was lots of paw flailing and blood involved. <br />

<br />
I did finally manage to save her by removing the tooth. She recovered really quick. Me... not so much.<br />

It's been quite a while since my last blog post and... well whatever.<br />
<br />
Kirk found a brand of beer that fits her.<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone003_zpsc1861c4b.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone003_zpsc1861c4b.jpg" /><br />
<br />
(although she thinks it should be for Icon, who is admittedly one of the bitchiest males I know)<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone176_zpsbe24df86.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone176_zpsbe24df86.jpg" /><br />
<br />
We haven't hiked too much lately, but she did get to go on her first off-leash hike and was very good! <br />
<br />
"I'm all growed up!"<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone008_zps269096d1.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone008_zps269096d1.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone075_zps06c3b1bd.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone075_zps06c3b1bd.jpg" /><br />
<br />
We had a very scary moment on the hike where Rampage came within inches of impaling himself on a branch. He impaled his water container instead. It was the left fork of the branch that got him.<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone091_zps95d09bb5.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone091_zps95d09bb5.jpg" /><br />
<br />
If you look closely you can see the huge, gaping hole that the branch left. If that had been his chest.... Yikes.<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone088_zpsd9d69781.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone088_zpsd9d69781.jpg" /><br />
<br />
Kirk turned 4 months old!<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone135_zps338ea286.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone135_zps338ea286.jpg" /><br />
<br />
And Rampage tried to send her back where she came from. It didn't work.<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone153_zps07a1504e.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone153_zps07a1504e.jpg" /><br />
<br />
She got to do a hike with horses. Horse butts = OK. Horse faces = MUST KILL!<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone242_zpsd05e71d0.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone242_zpsd05e71d0.jpg" /><br />
<br />
We made a fort for Rampage leading up to July 4th so he wouldn't be so worried about the fireworks. Rammy loved his fort!<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone297_zpsb6f170dc.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone297_zpsb6f170dc.jpg" /><br />
<br />
We spent July 4th at a trial where we didn't hear any fireworks at all! It was very nice :) There were more puppies than adult dogs at the trial. It's definitely puppy season.<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone325_zps7a690b86.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone325_zps7a690b86.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone330_zps780d5bc4.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone330_zps780d5bc4.jpg" /><br />
<br />
And then after July 4th Kirk (and my other dogs) spent a lot of time being BORED because I had to work a LOT.<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone364_zpsf4fd51bb.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone364_zpsf4fd51bb.jpg" /><br />
<br />
She spent a lot of time in a crate in my car. Too much time. Now she balks going back to the car after I take her out :(.<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone372_zpse135bce7.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone372_zpse135bce7.jpg" /><br />
<br />
I do always manage to get her out for walks and play, but it's not enough when you work 15-17 hours a day.<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone099_zps4f3ba4ff.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone099_zps4f3ba4ff.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
Some of that is at home, of course. But still BORING.</div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<img alt=" photo iphone298_zps6f70fea7.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone298_zps6f70fea7.jpg" /></div>
<br />
<br />
She got to defend me against evil flowers.<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone476_zpse0de3eea.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone476_zpse0de3eea.jpg" /><br />
<br />
And watch airplanes fly over the wind harp (why flowers are evil and airplanes are fine, I have no clue).<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone505_zps18ed9184.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone505_zps18ed9184.jpg" /><br />
<br />
She learned to pee laying down?? Uhm, whatever.<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone533_zps619dbfb3.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone533_zps619dbfb3.jpg" /><br />
<br />
And pose around an empty office building<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone536_zpse5fa8362.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone536_zpse5fa8362.jpg" /><br />
<br />
I even got to sneak her inside over the weekend.<br />
<img alt=" photo iphone607_zps3aca4965.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/071714/iphone607_zps3aca4965.jpg" /><br />
<br />
But now, my project has rolled out and I'm just dealing with some minor issues and follow up items. Still working more than I should but definitely less than the last few weeks! And.... one more week of work before 6 weeks off! I'm looking forward to visiting my family, backpacking in Oregon with Tammy, doing some agility trials <i>during the week </i> (gasp!) and lots of other things!<br />
<br />

<br />Channanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06510370599965624309noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3383509909269897844.post-58483364370394336582014-06-25T20:06:00.000-07:002014-06-25T20:06:19.785-07:00Tic TokI love Silvia Trkman. Her training methods are inspiring and I just love the bond she builds with her dogs. I've always felt that 90% of agility is having a great bond with your dog and the rest just falls into place (I realize that it is possible to have a great relationship with your dog and not do well in agility too, but those are outliers). <br />
<br />
I've been working on her Cik/Cap the last week or two and boy I sure progress a lot slower than Silvia! Not that it really matters aside from trying to see how I can improve. And I definitely see some reasons for it. Mainly 1) I don't reward frequently enough (especially when I'm so tired that I'm training to tire her out more than trying to teach her anything and 2) my placement of reward to encourage offering behavior can quickly turn into luring when I'm not paying attention (or tired).<br />
<br />
Unfortunately I'm unable to say Cik/Cap so I've translated to Tic Tok. Kirk's Tic direction is significantly better than her Tok so I see more Tok's in our future. <br />
<br />
We're going to continue to work on Tic Tok but I think my next focus will be heeling and our lineup behavior. I'm a bit tired or luring to face the correct direction I want her to go. We've played with pivoting with her front feet on an object but I haven't really progressed from there. <br />

Kirk's newest BFF is Bansky. Banksy is 3 weeks older than Kirk, but she is not all that much bigger. Their butts are around the same height, but Banksy's shoulders are higher. This is a good thing because it gives me hope that Kirk will be a normal size border collie and not a midget. Of course Banksy is supposed to be REALLY small so maybe Kirk will still be a midget and Banksy will be an extra midget.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Kirk looks up to Banksy, and I'm worried she might be a bad influence on Kirk. Doesn't she look a bit devious? Kirk is so innocent. </div>

<br />
An ass-high dog! Two days later she looked way more balanced. Gotta love puppy growing.<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_4308_zpsa23574a3.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/060414/IMG_4308_zpsa23574a3.jpg" />
<br />
<br />
She is still really cute though!<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_4309_zpsbefe95b7.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/060414/IMG_4309_zpsbefe95b7.jpg" />
<br />
<br />
Although perhaps a bit stalky<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_4247b_zps1b56c977.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/060414/IMG_4247b_zps1b56c977.jpg" />
<br />
<br />
She likes to chase the other dogs and they put up with her. Kinda.<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_4274b_zps328c2096.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/060414/IMG_4274b_zps328c2096.jpg" />
<br />
<br />
But Rampage would like her to go away. Now.<br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_4229_zps79ec590b.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/060414/IMG_4229_zps79ec590b.jpg" />

<br />
She's sooooo cute!
<img alt=" photo IMG_3985_zpsa6222278.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/053114/IMG_3985_zpsa6222278.jpg" /><br />
<br />
True, Bisou and Kirk!
<img alt=" photo IMG_3967_zpsbb517814.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/053114/IMG_3967_zpsbb517814.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<br />
With all my complaining about her food possessiveness you'd think she would be snarky with food around other dogs, but she isn't at all. At least with the lower value treats. I'm not sure what she would do with a lamb shank...
<img alt=" photo IMG_3965_zpsaf3ba758.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/053114/IMG_3965_zpsaf3ba758.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<br />
There's no doubt she loves her food though. "What about mine??"<img alt=" photo IMG_3963_zpsfbd5f202.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/053114/IMG_3963_zpsfbd5f202.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<br />
She loves to lure Bisou under chairs and have her way with him. Our poor neighbor had to put up with puppies wresting under his chair at random points during the weekend.<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_4016_zps2702b8d4.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/053114/IMG_4016_zps2702b8d4.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_4019_zpsa7a6fe64.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/053114/IMG_4019_zpsa7a6fe64.jpg" /><br />

She grew A LOT over the last few days. The orange harness no longer fits her.

<br />
<br />
On Sunday she met Banksy for the first time. She was noticeably smaller when they played first thing in the morning. When they played again at the end of the day, they looked about the same height! Whaaaaaaat? (no photos of the dramatic differece. Just take my word for it).
<img alt=" photo IMG_4128b_zps5cbde731.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/060114/IMG_4128b_zps5cbde731.jpg" /><br />
<br />
<br />
Oh yeah we did agility too. The boys did great! They both won pMCS and pMCJ and both rounds of PSJ. Rampage won PGP (phew, I needed that bye) but Icon was asking for a new handler after that run.
They were not really impressed with how much attention Kirk got over the weekend, though. Agility trials are supposed to be about THEM!<br />

I have struggled a bit with trying to manage work, my dogs, a puppy and a modicum of fitness (the fitness usually suffers) and sometimes I wonder how other people do it. <br />
<br />
So tonight I say, "Screw you, puppy. I'm not doing anything with you." Ok, not really. We did play for a while when we got home from work but after dinner I cannot rouse myself to entertain her. <br />
<br />
So I brought in "The Babysitter."<br />
<br />
(sorry, crappy dark cell phone photos, but I refer you to the "lack of energy" statement above).<br />

<br />
One thing my precious girl and I are still working on is food aggression. We have had major improvement since she was 8 weeks old and latched herself onto my face, but she still growls when I approach her as she's chewing on bones. All of my dogs have shown some level of food aggression as a puppy, but they have gotten over it by this age. I'm not worried about it with people, but I am conscious that this could be an issue with dogs in the future. Unfortunately I can't judge the possibility of this from her interaction with my boys because they wouldn't DARE try to take anything from her or correct her in any way.<br />

I actually do have some good photos and videos of her and will post soon. She's so smart and lots of fun to play with and train... when I have energy...<br />

<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
<img alt=" photo IMG_3323_zps0df55442.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/051814/IMG_3323_zps0df55442.jpg" /></div>
<br />
Kirk went on her very first hike this weekend. We went 10.5 miles, but of course she didn't walk the whole way. I'm really not sure how much she walked, maybe 2 miles in total. Mostly at the start and finish where it was relatively flat. She was such a trooper! She took everything in stride, including the big boxers who she wasn't so sure about when she met them the previous weekend at the AKC trial. Well, everything except when Reacher tried to hump her and she told him, "BACK OFF, DUDE." Feisty little thing. <br />
<br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_3339_zpsce35ffee.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/051814/IMG_3339_zpsce35ffee.jpg" /><br />
<br />
My photos totally suck from this hike. I brought my 'good' camera but it died 2 miles in (and then I had to lug it the rest of the way!) but even the ones I got weren't very good. Most of the hikes were under heavy tree cover. Great for summer hiking. Bad for photos.<br />
<br />
I mostly lagged behind this time...<br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_3322_zpsec369474.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/051814/IMG_3322_zpsec369474.jpg" /><br />
<br />
This may have been an cute photo if Rammy hadn't tried to photobomb.<br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_3341_zps430d58e2.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/051814/IMG_3341_zps430d58e2.jpg" /><br />

<br />
And then my camera died so I moved on to the iphone...<br />
<br />
And what did Kirk do when she wasn't being the Little Engine that Could? She was packing! <br />

The trail we were on was unfinished for years and years and years (and they are still putting the finishing touches on it). It was our 'super secret' trail where you could hike up to where the stones are in the photo below (we are on our way down in the photo) and then either have to turn around and go back (for an 8 mi hike) or bushwack a while to get up the rest of the trail. We would NEVER see people on this trail but we saw 2 groups of people this time. Boo. <br />

And then we were to the part where there are tons of people so we put the dogs back on leash. 2 miles left to go. It was a fun trip, but it would have been nice if Kirk was a bit more tired when I got home! <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
All of my border collies grew up coming to work with me and staying in the car (they're not allowed in the office). They get to go out for walks and stuff during the day. It's really good for socialization since they meet lots of people. Not that it helped much for Rampage, he never really liked meeting new people. Kirk LOVES it, though! She thinks everyone is there to meet her. We also go on field trips around work. I like going for walks along the bay, but my favorite is the Wind Harp. When it's windy (it usually is in South San Francisco) it produces lots of erie sounds. Kind of cool. </div>

They don't all LIKE her, but they are good with her. Maybe they already know that in a few short months she will be the boss of them.<br />
<br />
<br />
Foster has always been good with puppies. He's a good shoulder to lean on. This is Icon and Foster back in the day. <br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_7789.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/022606/IMG_7789.jpg" /><br />
<br />
And Foster is still great with puppies, of course.<br />
<a href="http://s22.photobucket.com/user/agilitydawgs/media/2014/050114/IMG_2474b_zps07a56fb9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_2474b_zps07a56fb9.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/050114/IMG_2474b_zps07a56fb9.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
Icon thinks that puppies have their uses. They are fun to herd, anyway.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s22.photobucket.com/user/agilitydawgs/media/2014/050114/IMG_2313b_zpscc13cec9.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_2313b_zpscc13cec9.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/050114/IMG_2313b_zpscc13cec9.jpg" /></a><br />
<br />
But he likes puppies on HIS terms only. He's very appropriate though.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://s22.photobucket.com/user/agilitydawgs/media/2014/050114/IMG_2358b_zpse384205a.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_2358b_zpse384205a.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/050114/IMG_2358b_zpse384205a.jpg" /></a>
<br />
<br />
Rampage just wants to be left alone. "I'll just stay as far away as possible and look handsome"<br />
<a href="http://s22.photobucket.com/user/agilitydawgs/media/2014/050114/IMG_2316b_zps4be7473e.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img alt=" photo IMG_2316b_zps4be7473e.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/050114/IMG_2316b_zps4be7473e.jpg" /></a>Channanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06510370599965624309noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3383509909269897844.post-34109392890743175782014-04-29T08:21:00.003-07:002014-04-29T08:21:58.994-07:00Her name is Kirk!I decided to just stick with my boy name, Kirk! It's fun to say and she likes it (and so do my other dogs). <br />
<br /><br />
Foster continues to be so good with her, but he doesn't like his new nickname, "Momma Foster"<br />
<br /><br />
<img alt=" photo IMG_2121b_zps4489df5c.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/042814/IMG_2121b_zps4489df5c.jpg" />
<br />
<br /><br />
Kirk's whole head fits in Foster's mouth!
<img alt=" photo IMG_2160b_zpsfd5485dc.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/042814/IMG_2160b_zpsfd5485dc.jpg" />
<br />
<br /><br />
Dasher has no clue what's in store for her.
<img alt=" photo IMG_2234b_zps637ac791.jpg" border="0" src="http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b338/agilitydawgs/2014/042814/IMG_2234b_zps637ac791.jpg" /><br />
<br /><br />
Incoming!<br />

<br />
<br /><br />
Hopefully Kirk will grow into this Frisbee

Love at first sight (not really, but now that's how I'll remember it)<br />

He had a special name that was going to be revealed in a spectacular fashion (ok, maybe not spectacular but interesting.) There was going to be a video using special effects and a contest to see who could guess his name. I had his whole agility career planned out for him from puppy to world champion. But it wasn't to be...<br />
<br />
Because it's a girl! And my boy name was macho and egotistic and just wouldn't fit her very well (although it wouldn't NOT fit her). She doesn't have a name yet, but I'm currently leaning towards Newt. <br />

She wasn't so sure about the big dogs yesterday, but is quite comfortable with them today. They all ignore her at this point, aside from Icon who wants to herd her. </div>

For the last 5 years or so, ALL toys go to Foster first (especially toys won by the other dogs at agility trials). The other boys get to play with toys when Foster doesn't want them. So now Foster doesn't understand why HE doesn't have first dibs on all of these wonderful, colorful puppy toys. </div>

Puppy will be 7 weeks on Wednesday and will probably come home next Friday, but maybe Monday since I'll be at a trial in my RV all weekend and who wants to deal with a puppy at a trial in an RV? OMG, who am I kidding... I DO!</div>
